Kai Akamatsu
Kai continued to sip his tea, and slurp on the noodles that where prepared for them – her cooking was almost better than his mother’s as he continued to pig out on it. He listened to her speak of her story – of how she took care of things for her parents, and was also the one in charge of making sure her sibling was okay as well. “I see.” He responded, taking his hand to pick up his tea cup to bring it back to his lips to take another sip from it slowly, his orange orbs staring at her as she continued to talk. As she was talking about her grandmother’s habits, he zoned in on her – observing her features like a hidden book. His orange orbs gazing at her in a friendly manner, a soft smile across his visage as he nodded. “Sounds like you got a lot on your shoulders,” he spoke out, taking another sip of his tea before continuing, “If you ever need help – I’m here for ya.”
Kai smiled happily at her when she had spoken about some of her delicious udon to go as he nodded excitedly. He continued to finish up the rest of his bowl, leaning back in the chair as he let out a sigh of relief – his orange orbs gazing up at the ceiling of the room until he looked over to see Sakura finishing up her bowl, and tea as well. “That was good.” He told her, standing up as he grabbed his dirty bowl and then retrieved her bowl to bring it to the kitchen sink. Kai rinsed both of the bowls out, and then set them down into the sink for them to be done properly later as he turned around – his eyes staring at the cake now, “That looks really good too..” He chuckled, walking over to the seat next to her as he sat down and leaned in the chair, “Have you decided to join any clubs at school?” He spoke to her, looking over to her – trying to start conversation with her. “What do you normally like to do for fun?” He continued, smiling softly – awaiting for her replies.

| Sakura nodded as he took her bowl out to the kitchen. She started to pull the cake towards her and cut it as he asked her about clubs. She blushed slightly keeping her eyes downcast.
"Oh-- um-- I'm not allowed to join any clubs, Grandmother got special permission from the school and everything... M-my temple duties take up most of my time.... so..." She scratched her cheek gently with one finger as she felt embarrassed. She was sure that Kai did something cool or interesting, and here she was attending to graves and sweeping the temple grounds. She let out a sigh as she felt as though she was going to scare him away with her morbid after school activities. She sliced a piece of cake and slid it onto a plate and handed it to kai with a fork. She then repeated the process for herself taking a small bite with a smile. Sakura loved to bake and cook. It was a hobby she enjoyed very much.
"D-Do you have any clubs that you're in? I-I could pack this cake up for you to take home, I'm sure your mother and sister would enjoy it and I can't possibly eat anymore by myself..." To be honest she had been using baking to distract herself at night so that she didn't feel so lonely. The temple scared her during the evenings when the lost souls of spirits wandered about.

Kai listened to her, smiling at her as she was blushing and a nervous mess – it seemed to be her personality as he assumed. He leaned forward now, staring at the cake with excitement as he took his fork from her, smiling and soon taking a small bite into his mouth. “Oh, wow.” He spoke after swallowing, soon cutting another slice of his cake slice with his fork and scooping it up and then into his mouth, “This is delicious too. You should make a recipe book, Sakura!” He smiled at her, laughing as he continued to eat the delicious cake happily. “I’m in no clubs, honestly. But I do like to play the guitar while I’m at home.”
He blinked at her offer, nodding. “I’m sure Yuu and mother would love it.. You are staying here for a week alone?” He asked her, concern within his voice was obvious as he moved his hand to his chin – it would be weird for him to offer her to stay with them, since she didn’t know him or his family all. He looked at her – observing her now as he noticed she was giving off the vibe of ‘it’s scary here alone’. “This might sound odd, but.. If you are uncomfortable with staying here – I’m sure my mother would be more than happy to have another person at the house and I can come here to help you clean the temple after school, so you aren’t alone.” He looked around – the temple was kind of spooky, and he couldn’t imagine being a small, fragile pink haired girl in this type of situation – he would be scared too. “It’s an offer that’s in the air.” He told her, smiling once more to reassure her that she’s safe no matter what. He took another bite of his cake, chewing it silently.

| Sakura blushed at his offer, though he was just trying to be kind, Salura knew how inappropriate it would be for her to live with him and his family. Besides her place was here and she had resigned herself to her fate. Gand mother would be home in a couple of days and even though they didn't talk much she knew that having another body in the house would make her feel better.
"T-Thank you Kai, that's very kind of you, but I have to stay here and do my duty as a shrine maiden in training." She smiled gently at him as she stood and brought the rest of the cake into the kitchen to pack up. she clicked the tupperware top over the cake setting it aside next to the soup she had packed up earlier. She put everything into a cloth bag so that it would be easier to carry, and set the bag by the door and Kai's shoes. She suddenly saw the time and panicked. She had grabbed a pamphlet off the bus with the routes and times in it earlier and she didn't want Kai to be too late getting home.
"Goodness! L-look at the time! If you don't catch this next buss you'll be stuck here for another 2 hours!" She came up beside him with a worried expression.
"I've already taken up so much of your time! Please forgive me!" She touched his forearm gently ready to walk him down to the bus stop.

Kai Akamatsu
Kai was sitting in the kitchen still, and sipping the last bit of his tea as he looked over to see Sakura being frantic about the bus schedule, “Oh, what time is...” He removed his cellphone from his pocket and saw it was nearly eight. “Ouch. Yeah.” He stood up and drank the last bit of his tea as he set it into the sink and walked with Sakura to his school bag and shoes. He leaned down and began to re-lace his combat boots, and grabbed his school bag, then cloth bag she had made for him. He looked into it and saw she even gave him some more soup. “You are awesome, thanks.” He smiled at her – moving his hand to touch her head and mess up her hair. “I’ll be okay, stay inside it’s chilly and it’s late – guy is supposed to walk the girl home.” He grabbed his jacket hanging on the rack on the wall, and pulled it over his appendages. “Text, or call me if you need too. I’ll let you know when I get home.” He smiled – and with that he darted off running into the courtyard of her temple, and shortly down the stairs.
Kai reached the bottom of the stairs, and headed to the bus stop as it was pulling up at the exact moment he reached it. He let out a sigh of relief, and got onto the bus then headed to a seat. He removed his cellphone, scrolling through his contacts he select Sakura’s name and began to text. [It’s Kai. Just got on the bus, and heading home. Thanks for the cake!] He hit send and closed his phone and placed it back into his pocket as he watched the traffic fly by the window. He got to his house within 20-30 minutes, and got off the bus as he headed to his home. It was 9:00pm by the time he got to his house, and went to the front gate to open it then closed it behind him. Kai went up to the front door, opened it then closed it behind him, “I’m home!” He yelled, as his little sister came running in from the living room. “Kaaiiii onii-chaan!!” She yelled, attempting to tackle him but could only hug his waist. Kai moved his hand to pet his sister’s head, smiling as he leaned down. “I brought some cake from a friend.” He handed her the cloth baggy full of food, “Go take it to mom.” He spoke out as he began to remove his shoes, and after he opened his cellphone to send another quick text message to Sakura now. [I’m home.]. "Kai!" He heard his mother's calling, as he shoved his phone into his pocket after he sent it - not seeing if Sakura returned his text or not yet. He ran into the kitchen quickly, looking over to see his mother and Yuu slicing the cake. "This cake is delicious! Did Mori make it?" Kai began to laugh uncontrollably as he shook his head, "No. I met a new student today at school. Her name is Sakura." He spoke out, smiling as he went over to get a glass for some water before bed, "She was being bullied so I helped her out, and she made me udon and cake."
Kai's mother looked at him, smiling softly as she leaned over to hug her son with love. "I raised such a gentleman. Invite her over tomorrow for dinner, please." She spoke out, handing a small slice of the strawberry cake to Yuu to go eat in the kitchen. Kai blinked and blushed slightly from his mothers affection, pushing her back as he cleared his throat. "I'll see. She's training to be a shrine maiden, so maybe I can see if she can come on the weekends if it's easier." He suggested to his mother - as she nodded and agreed..

| Sakura blushed as he ruffled her hair and hurried out the door. Her expression fell from happy waving to slight sadness as he disappeared from sight. Again she was alone and she turned to face her empty house. She moved about the kitchen quickly, taking care of the dishes and wiping the counter tops down. A shiver went down her spine as she felt something approach her in the darkened room. She swallowed hard not wanting to turn to see what it was. She could feel her breathing become erratic and she quickly tried to calm herself so as not to have a panic attack. Sakura had always had poor health ever since she was born. Doctors could never quite figure out what was wrong with her but it seemed to stem from her lungs. She was susceptible to panic and anxiety attacks, sometimes being hospitalized because of them. There was no greater fear to Sakura than not being able to breathe. Suddenly her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out to see a text message from Kai. She smiled softly as a red hue crossed her pale cheeks. He had gotten home safe, and she quickly typed up her response. [I'm glad you got home safe, see you tomorrow! ^_^ thanks again for everything today, good night!]. She closed her phone and was quickly reminded of the ghostly presence behind her, Kai's message had allowed her to catch her breath and she took quick steps forward to run into her bedroom and shut the door.
The next day Sakura got on the bus with ease and found her way to school without any mishaps. She walked onto the school’s campus holding her bag with both hands. She wasn't sure if she'd see Kai knowing that he was an upperclassman but she hoped all the same that she would.

Kai Akamatsu
It was morning and Kai had woken up still with the clothes on from yesterday – he quickly scrambled to get up, running slightly late. He changed his clothing to his typical rebellious attire – ripped jeans, baggy white button up blouse, and his tie hung around his neck without being tightened. He grabbed his cell phone, looking through it to see Sakura had texted him after all – but he had fallen asleep. He smiled slightly, moving to respond to her as he headed down the stairs. [I’m running a bit late... Slept in.] He sent the text and shoved his phone into his pocket, and headed down the stairs. He grabbed his combat boots – lacing them up quickly, and grabbed his school bag to hurry out the door. Kai ran to school – like normal, panting heavily as he heard the bell ringing in the distance. Damn. He didn’t get to see Sakura off to her class, oh well.
Kai arrived to the school as students were piling into the building together. Kai’s orange orbs glanced around to look for pink hair, but couldn’t seem to find her. He frowned, moving his hands into his pockets as he hurried to his class room upstairs. Upon arriving, he walked through the back and then took a seat next to his friend Mori, leaning in his chair as he removed his cell phone from his pocket, hiding it underneath his desk as he sent another text to Sakura. [I’ll see you after school. Have a good day.] He sent the text and quickly hid his phone – going to his text book to begin his lecture of the evening.. lovely, school.

| As Sakura walked into her classroom her phone buzzed. Pressing the button on the front of the phone to unlock it she read a text message from Kai. She suddenly felt guilty thinking he must have been tired from staying out too late with her and overslept. She told herself she'd have to apologize to him later. Looking up from her phone as she slid it into her book bag she came face to face with the boy from yesterday's incident. Sakura turned white as a sheet as the boy and two of his friends grinned at her blocking her path.
"Where's your friend now new girl?" The boy asked, his eyes narrowed and he reached forward taking a stand of her hair between two fingers and brought it to his nose. Sakura's stomach turned as she felt the beginning of a panic attack. Her breathing began to cut short and she felt her vision blur slightly and he pressed her against the door frame.
"In your seats now please! Mr. Eiji Nakamura behave yourself..." Their teacher growled as he came through the door and caught sight of the frightened Sakura. He placed a hand on her shoulder, reassuring her that she'd be ok. She was grateful for his timing and she felt herself calming down even though the boys laughed and jested with each other over their treatment of her. Sakura rushed to her seat and sat there in awkward silence. She took out her phone and sent Kai a quick text: [can you meet me at lunch? I'll be on the roof.] She felt safe with Kai and she hated to be a bother but if she would feel slightly better about the school day if she saw him, besides she had made him a bento and wanted to give it to him. Slipping her phone away and taking out her things she got ready for her lessons, counting down the minutes until lunch.

Kai Akamatsu
Kai was in his seat, leaning with his chair on it's back legs as he felt his pocket vibrate. He reached into his pocket, removing his cell phone as he saw it was from Sakura. She was asking to have lunch with him. He smiled slightly to her text, responding back quickly. [Of course.] He sent it back and dropped the chair to all fours - his orange orbs gazed upon the clock as he waited for lunch to tick down.
After some hours, he got up and stretched his appendages in the air. The lunch bell was about to go off in a few minutes, and he decided he would already go to the roof to wait for Sakura a little bit early. He grabbed his textbooks, and his school bag as he snuck out the back and headed towards the stairs. He headed up, and pushed the large door to the roof open and was hit with a gust of warm air, and a cool breeze. He let out a sigh of relief - glad it wasn't too cold, but he had his jacket on just in case. Kai went over to one of the edges of the building, peeking over the fence as he saw some of the people leaving for their lunch to go down the road. Kai removed his cellphone, pressing the button to unlock it as he saw that it was time for the lunch bell to ring - in which, it did. The bell rang, and he heard students from all home rooms running and flocking in different directions. He reached into his pocket, removing some headphones to place into his right ear as the other dangled at his chest; moving his finger to the music option on his cellphone he began to listen to his tunes. Kai's gut twisted - he was concerned about Sakura, but he waited for her as he leaned up against the fence - his orange orbs gazing down at his phone as he scrolled through some of his music.

| Sakura felt her anxiety building as the clocked ticked down to the sound of the lunch bell. She Jumped out of her seat collecting her things as quickly as she could and heading out the door as Eiji called after her. She ran from her classroom not daring to look back as she could feel the mean boy's glare on her back. Getting lost for a little she finally found her way to the roof and burst through the door into the fresh air breathing heavily. Her eyes fell onto Kai and relief washed over her. She let herself fall to her knees as she tried to catch her breath pressing her palms into the ground. She knew she shouldn't have run, her poor health was often agitated by physical activity. Her cheeks were hot and a cold sweat had formed on her forehead. She looked up to Kai with a smile.
"S-Sorry I'm l-late" She stuttered shyly as she pushed herself up slowly wiping the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. She could see a look of concern on his face and she instantly regretted her entrance. She didn't want to worry Kai with her problems, and she knew he would stick up for her again, but nevertheless she couldn't keep bothering others with her troubles. Trying to deter his train of thought she pulled open her book bag and pulled out the bento she had made him.
"I-I hope you don't mind, I-I made you a bento..." She handed it over to him wrapped in a silk handkerchief.

Kai Akamatsu
Kai continued to eat the delicious treats within the bento, moving to use his chopsticks to push some of the fried tempura into his mouth as he closed his eyes, enjoying the taste. He listened to Sakura speak about those boys from yesterday, and how they are still very persistent. "Tch." His tune was different now, his orange pools opening slightly as he glanced forward to the door of the roof, "I see.." He spoke out, moving the chopsticks to the seaweed salad and putting some in his mouth, swallowing after chewing as he looked over to her, "Well, actually.." He spoke out, offering her a small smile. "My mother and sister wanted to invite you for dinner tonight, or if it's easier for you over the weekend." He told her as he returned his gaze to the bento, moving the box to his mouth to push some of the rice into his mouth with the chopsticks - chewing. He placed the bento on the cement, leaning back against the fence as a relieved sigh escaped through his lips.
"Aaahh.. That was delicious!" he happily spoke out, looking over to Sakura with his orange orbs, "Thanks, again." he told her as he then moved his attention to the light blue sky, he didn't know if he should offer to rough the boys up again or not - he knew her nature wasn't as violent as his rebellious one. He kept silent, a soft yawn emitting from his lips as he stretched his arms up into the air to allow his hands to be placed behind his head.

| Sakura smiled gently as Kai thanked her and started to eat. She sat next to him on the rim of the building and leaned her head back against the chain link fencing letting the sun warm her face. She relaxed her tense muscles as she took a deep breath and let out a sigh. Kai's voice quickly brought her out of her mind as he asked how class was. Her brow furrowed as she tried to force the smile to stay on her face.
"W-Well..." She really didn't want to bother him with her problems, but he was the only friend she had made so far and he seemed willing to help her in any way he could.
"Those boys from yesterday... They're in the same class as me." she rubbed her hands together nervously as she continued. "T-They're very persistent... Even the teacher seems like he doesn't have much say in their behavior." She let her eyes fall to her feet as she kicked her legs out letting her heels bounce off the cement barrier as they fell against it. She decided to change the subject.
"D-Did your family enjoy the cake? I-I could bake you another one" She looked at him smiling more naturally this time as her cheeks took on a pinkish hue.

| Sakura was happy they had enjoyed her cake, after all she loved to bake and having someone enjoy her baking was the best reward of all. She smiled broadly as he conveyed they're enjoyment of her baked goodie, but her expression changed to deep thought and concern when he invited her over to his house for dinner.
"That's very kind of you..." She started to say as she drifted off into mind. Her grandmother would be furious if she knew she was hanging out with a boy. She didn't even want Sakura to go to school, but it had been the condition her mother had put into place as part of the deal to have her move out here. Her grandmother wouldn't be back until Sunday evening but still... Sakura wouldn't be able to keep things like that from her, she was a terrible liar. She was torn, she wanted to keep Kai as a friend and have a life outside of the temple but if her grandmother had her way that sort of thing wouldn't be allowed. It would however be rude to reject his invitation.
"Does S-Saturday work? I'll get my chores done early and I should be able to come over." She smiled nervously at him as the bell rang for class and she bolted out of her seat.
"Oh dear! We're going to be late!" She packed up her things and Kai's bento before rushing to the door and pausing at the handle.
"I'll talk to you later! B-bye!" She rushed down the stairs and off to class.

Kai Akamatsu
Kai had knew he must have put a lot of pressure on her, by the tone of her voice changing and the distant look as she began to think about the rules for her temple, and her grandmother. He frowned slightly – feeling bad that he had even brought it up until she looked back to him, a soft smile on her face as she stuttered out the words ‘S-Saturday?’ A bright smile went across his visage as he nodded happily, “Yes. I can come help you too, if you like.” He offered her – but didn’t force it onto her. The bell rang and he jumped to attention, watching the girl scatter around to gather her belongings. “I’ll see you later, thanks for lunch.” He waved to her as she ran towards the door – leaving in a hurry.
Kai moved his hands into the pockets of his pants, letting out a soft yawn as he headed to the door and pulled it open to begin heading down the stairs, his orange orbs gazing around. He debated on if he should go back to class or not. He shrugged his shoulders – quickly heading to his class to finish the last few hours of his lecture before leaving 20 minutes early, before the bell rang to meet with Sakura at her class. Kai leaned up against the wall opposite of her school door – his orange orbs fixed on the door knob as he waited for the bell to ring, patiently of course.
