Kai Akamatsu
Kai sat next to her still – his hand over his face until his blush had subsided from his pale skin, he gazed over to her as she spoke to him – his face immediately blushing once more from her words, “N..no problem..” he stuttered back, offering her a kind smile in return – his orange orbs watching her finish up her soup. Once she was finished with the soup he would stand up and move to retrieve her tray, “I’ll be back.” He told her – leaving the living room and heading into the kitchen, and putting the tray on the counter to be cleaned up later. Kai went into the fridge, removing a pitcher of cold water and pouring it into her water glass and refilled it. Once finished – he put it back, grabbed the glass of water and went back to the living room to see that she was already curled up in a ball, the blanket covering up to her nose almost as her pale pink orbs were closed.
Kai smiled softly, stepping down into the living room and setting the glass cup onto the table as he moved the blanket a bit more to cover her completely, and keep her warm. “I’m going to do the dishes, so just rest.” He whispered, leaning down to rub her head slightly and turned on his heel to head into the kitchen to clean up the plates, and dinner since his mother was currently putting Yuu down for bed upstairs. He finished washing the dishes, and the time was almost 10:00pm. He put the left overs away, and then headed back to the living room to see Sakura was passed out already on the couch. Kai went over to her, moving the blanket from her as he scooped his arm underneath her knees and behind her upper back for support and lifted her up slowly as to not wake her. He balanced her gently, allowing her head to lean up against his chest as he made his way up the stairs slowly and carefully. Once he arrived to his room, he pushed his door open with his foot slowly and went to the bed of his room, and laid her gently in it. Kai removed his arms from her body slowly as to not disturb her, moving his hands to his blanket and pulled it over her and tucked her in. “Goodnight,” he whispered to the sleeping girl, moving his lips to peck the top of her head gently as he sneaked out, closing the door just a bit by a crack as he went back downstairs and climbed onto the couch, laying on his back with his hands behind his head – his orange orbs stared up at the ceiling in the dark until he closed them – trying to fall asleep but he was still upset from the school. He needed to figure something out.

| What was that? Sakura squeezed her eyes shut more tightly, creases forming at their corners; someone was talking to her? The old woman’s voice was kind and gentle and it kept asking for Kai. Opening her eyes she peered sleepily up at the kind old woman as she smiled down at Sakura, who had no idea where she was.
“Where am I?” she asked, still half asleep as she yawned and rubbed her eyes. Peering around the room in the dark the first thing she noticed was kai’s scent, some sort of manly soap or deodorant and she breathed it in deep pulling the blanket tighter around herself as she enjoyed being closer to him regardless of where he was actually sleeping. She concluded that she was in his room, being the gentleman that he was, he must have slept someplace else in order for her to be more comfortable.
The voice came again urging her to get up and get Kai, and like a zombie more asleep than awake Sakura pushed herself out of Kai’s bed and found her way through his house in the dark to the living room where he was sleeping on the couch. Reaching out she shook his shoulder gently
“Kai, Kai… Your Oba-san is looking for you…” Sakura yawned

Kai Akamatsu Kai was asleep on his left side, his face buried against the pillow. He had a blanket over one of his legs, while the other deemed to dangle off the edge of the couch. Once Sakura began to shake his shoulder, he stirred awake – his orange orbs opening slowly and blinking a few times. “Sakura..?” He questioned, moving his body around to see that indeed – it was Sakura, and she was talking about his grandmother. Kai moved his hand up above him, pulling on a string to click on one of the smaller lights of the living room to give them some light. He threw his legs over the couch now, moving his hand to his eyes to rub slightly as he then put his arms in the air, “I’m sorry..” He stuttered, “What was it again..” he spoke out sleepily, but then realizing she had once again – spoken that his grandmother was looking for him.
Kai’s orange orbs stared up at Sakura, almost confused – but concerned as he stood up quickly and moved his forearm to her forehead, “Are you okay..?” He asked her, “My Oba-san.. “ he hesitated, his voice becoming saddened, “... She died of cancer a year ago.” He spoke out, moving to sit onto the couch now as he placed his hands to his head – rubbing slightly, “She used to stay here with us, and my mother took care of her..” Kai was still very confused on why Sakura was mentioning her, his gaze returning to her – “Why.. do you say she’s looking for me..?”

| Sakura was still mostly asleep as her eyelids barely staying open. It hadn’t been until Kai touched her feverish forehead that she seemed to come to, rather embarrassed, at where she found herself. She had done it again. Hiding behind her hands as he told the story of how his grandmother had died a year ago. Wanting nothing more than to just disappear she gasped out her apologies.
“I-I’m sorry Kai… I shouldn’t have woken you up, I didn’t even realize what I was doing, I should have paid better attention…” Still a familiar chill ran up her spine and she turned to look down the darkened hallway to stare at the kind old woman there waiting patiently a slight glow about the woman now more noticeable since she was awake. The old woman waved her on, gesturing for her to come with her, and Sakura swallowed hard, tearing her eyes away from her to look at Kai as he posed his question.
“Ah… Um… Well… H-Her spirit is here still… There is something she wants to give you.” Sakura stood up, her eyes darting from Kai’s confused expression back to the kind smiling old woman who beckoned her into the darkness. Taking steps towards the old woman she shot one more glance towards Kai as she rounded the corner hoping he would follow her.
Keeping her distance from the old lady she followed slowly behind her until they reached a room on the other side of Kai’s. The old woman passed through the door, but Sakura stood hesitantly in front of it, resting a tentative hand on the door knob, afraid to go further.

Kai Akamatsu Kai listened to Sakura’s voice, she sounded upset – and embarrassed. He went to gaze up at her, his hand reaching out to grab her but she turned over to gaze in the corner of the hallway, motioning Kai in a manner to follow her. “…Her spirit..?” He whispered to himself – his orange orbs staring at her with confusion, but nonetheless – he trusted her. Kai pushed himself back up, stumbling over the blanket in the process as he followed Sakura through the hallway, he didn’t see what Sakura saw – only thing he saw was a small light fluttering away – going into the end hall room, which was used as his grandmothers room but now turned into storage.
Kai walked behind her – his arm reaching from and placing it onto her own, he motioned her to grab the door knob and to unlock the door as he helped her pull the door open. Dust fluttered out, his appendage moving to wrap around Sakura to pull her behind him so she wouldn’t get any breathing flares from the dust. Coughing a bit himself, he let go of the girl – his attention turning around to the medium sized bedroom. There was an old bed in the corner, not used and wrapped in plastic. Most of the furniture was also wrapped with plastic, but it was pretty spacious considering. Kai slipped into the room, moving the bookshelf from behind the door so that it opened a bit more so Sakura could come in. He closed the door behind him, his hand moving to flick on the light as he looked around. “..Now what..” He asked, his orange orbs still observing the area.

| Sakura was instantly comforted as she felt Kai so close to her as he placed his hand on top of hers as they turned the door knob and pushed open the door together. Stale air poured out of the room carrying dust that sent both of them coughing as Kai pulled her into his arms to block most of it. Her face burst into red hues as her cheek pressed to his chest, the strength in his arms sent her heart beating wildly against her ribs. Though as quickly as he took her in he let her go and Sakura struggled to calm herself and breathe with all the dust in the air. Wheezing slightly she looked around the room and the plastic covered furniture soon located the woman as she sat on her old bed waving them forward. Putting a hand over her mouth to block the dust from her lungs, the other hand clutched her own chest in an effort to calm herself.
“S-She wants us to go over to the b-bed…” Sakura was so embarrassed, Kai was never going to talk to her ever again once he found out what a freak she was, but it was her job now to put souls to rest and if Kai’s Grandmother needed something done before she passed on who was Sakura to deny her. Moving closer the woman turned and pointed to the drawer and spoke to her in a pale echo-y voice that only she could hear.
“In here, there’s a false bottom… Our family ring is there, I meant to give it to Miyuki before I passed but it all happened so quickly in the end. I didn’t get the chance.”
Sakura nodded and swallowed hard, moving out of the way for Kai as she pointed out the top drawer of the night stand next to his dead grandmother’s bed.
“S-She says that there’s a false bottom in that drawer, there’s a ring there, a family heirloom of s-some kind? She wants Miyuki to have it… Who is that?” Sakura asked through her hand, starting to pant weakly a cold sweat forming on her forehead.

Kai Akamatsu Kai followed her slowly, his orange orbs looking at all of the furniture that had collected dust within a short amount of time – should probably clean this room up sometime. He paused, and looked over to Sakura who was motioning him towards the bed – in which he did, and followed her over there. Looming between her, and the bed she seemed to be having a conversation with something – but he was unsure. “Miyuk is my mother..” he spoke out, looking over to Sakura.
Kai was still a bit confused, but kind of understood what might have been going on. “The ring..?” He repeated after her, “My mom and I searched high and low for the ring...” Kai spoke out, kneeling down in front of the drawer and pulled it out completely. Once removed – he tapped on the bottom as it shifted, and like Sakura said – it was a fake bottom. Once he removed the lid of the drawer, a small ring was located in there – golden with various gemstones, and many colors. “Oh god…” Kai stuttered out, moving his fingers to carefully pick it up as he stared at it with shock. They searched this drawer more than a hundred of times, “My mother thought she lost it…” he spoke out, standing up straight as he looked back over to Sakura – she was pale, sweating and panting. “We need to get you back to bed..” without hesitation, Kai went over to her as he put the ring into his pocket. He scooped her into his arms, his arm carefully tucked underneath her knees and his other supporting her upper back as he carried her out of the room quickly. Once he left the room, he turned the light off with his elbow and then closed the door behind him with his foot as he proceeded to head back upstairs to his bedroom, silently.
Once arriving to his bed, he gently laid the girl down as he stared down at her, “Thank you.” He told her, removing his arms from underneath her as he sat at the edge, “I’m glad my grandmother reached out to you.. It’s nice to know she’s still here sometimes.” Kai spoke out, his voice shaking a bit as he looked forward to the wall. He was saddened to be remembered of her, but very thankful that the heirloom was found. “My mother will be happy about this as well, and will stop blaming herself... We searched for months for this.” Clearing his throat quickly, he turned to look over at Sakura, "Get some sleep. I'll be downstairs if you need me." He smiled softly to her, moving his hand out to rub the top of her head in a very affectionate manner before standing up to leave.

| She watched as he pulled out the drawer to the dresser looking at her with surprise as sure enough a false bottom was revealed and he pulled out the ring. He was surprised and confused all at the same time but he hardly gave her the chance to explain as he saw her falter on her feet. Sakura could hardly object as he scooped her up, holding her tightly to him as he carried her out of the room, her eyes locked on the old woman as she smiled and vanished as Kai closed the door and headed back upstairs to his own bed, laying her down gently. He thanked her, didn’t ask her a single thing about how she had found it or what she was. Those were the usual questions she received when using her gift. Still he looked so sad, and that was something she was used to seeing, sadness and usually anger. Both emotions were understandable when dealing with the sudden remembrance of a lost loved one. Sakura didn’t blame anyone for their emotions, she just wished they wouldn’t get angry with her for relaying a souls message. Kai wasn’t angry and her heart suddenly skipped a beat as he stood to go. She didn’t know what came over her, but she grabbed his wrist the best she could to stop him as he pet her head lovingly.
“S-Stay with me… P-Please” She flushed avoiding eye contact with him in embarrassment of her request. She just didn’t want to be alone…

Kai Akamatsu As Kai was turning to leave, he felt her soft fingers wrap around his wrist in a very clingy manner – her stuttering for him to stay with her caused his pale face to immediately flush red. His orange orbs looked back to her, staring down at her flustered self as he nodded silently, “O... Okay...” He responded as he stood himself straight – his hand moving into his pocket to remove the heirloom ring and then placed it onto his computer desk across from his bed as he then headed to the light switch, flicking it off and using his cellphone light to kind of guide him back over to the side of his bed.
Kai sat on the edge of the bed, his heart racing at a rapid pace as he looked around for the moment, “....” His orange orbs gazed over to her as he noticed she was scooting over in the bed slightly for him to lay with her – gulping slightly as he hesitated, but sucked it up and crawled onto the bed but didn’t get underneath the covers.
Kai laid next to Sakura almost like a stiff log for the moment, he listened to her panicked breathing as he felt he should do something but so he moved his appendage to slip underneath the pillow her head was on as he pulled her closer to him. His arm wrapped around her slightly, her head being rested against his shoulder and chest – kind of between his armpit as his hand gently rubbed her upper back in a comforting manner and his nose nuzzled against the top of her head as he held her close to himself, whispering slightly. “I.. I hope this is okay..” he spoke out – not entirely sure on how to comfort someone, but he assumed it was like this. His other appendage moved slightly, his hand being placed onto his abdomen as he closed his orange orbs slightly – listening to Sakura’s breathing slowly steadying.

| Sakura’s heart began to race as he agreed to stay with her. Turning off the lights and leaving the ring on his desk he stiffly crawled into bed with her pulling her close. At first she was worried she may panic and her breathing would suffer but the minute her head settled on his chest and his hand started to rub her back she felt more at ease then she had in a long while. Kai wasn’t like other boys, he was kind and gentle, he cared for her without an alternative motive. She found herself falling for him rather quickly. Her cheeks glowed warmly as she let her eyes drift close, humming in approval at his question. It wasn’t long until she was out completely.
Her fever drove her to kick the blankets off as she slept and by morning she had entwined her legs into his. Her hands gripped his shirt loosely. Her breathing finally steady, her fever easing slightly, she slept deeply.

Kai Akamatsu Kai’s orange orbs were hard to keep open, he listened to her breathing slowly getting steady as he smiled slightly against her pink hair. She smelt of flowers, and it caused him to over relax and soon drift off into sleep himself. He held her close, not even budging to move as his arm loosely wrapped around her and held her tightly, but not too tight.
By morning, Kai was still on his back with his head buried against her messy tress – his hand was on top of her hand that loosely gripped his shirt while his other appendage was underneath her, and wrapped around her. Still soundly asleep, he barely shifted at all – even when she had wrapped her legs around one of his own.
His bedroom door cracked slightly, his little sister peeking in slowly – her big blue orbs staring over to see Kai and Sakura snuggled away cutely. Yuu smiled happily, closing the door slowly and sneaking downstairs to the kitchen as her fingers moved to her mother’s apron, “Mama, mama.” She spoke softly, “Kai onii-chan and Sakura onee-chan are sleeping together, come, come.” She persisted, tugging her mother by her apron as she chuckled, “Okay, okay. Hold on.”
Miyuki turned off the sink, and dried her hands on her apron as she followed Yuu into the hallway – but her eyes caught a trail of dust coming from the storage room – curiously, she turned to walk into the storage room, opening the door and seeing that Kai’s, and Sakura’s foot prints were there, and that their grandmother’s nightstand’s drawer was pulled out, and it looked like they found something in a hidden compartment. “Hmm..” Miyuki thought for the moment, shrugging it off she closed the door to the storage room and quickly followed Yuu upstairs. Once arriving to his door, Yuu opened it and pointed at the site to see – Kai cuddling Sakura in a very caring manner. Miyuki smiled softly, as Yuu giggled until her eyes caught a shiny ring on the desk and Miyuki’s smiling face turned to surprise, and her orbs glistened. “The ring..” her voice cracking as she pushed the door open and went to the desk, her pale digits picking it up and staring at it until she heard her son’s groggy voice, whispering. “..Mmnn.. Sakura found it last night...” He spoke softly, as not to awake Sakura as he shifted a bit, his orange orbs opening and gazing over to the both of them. “
Miyuki looked back at him, a soft smile across her visage. “I see... How..?” She asked, curiously of course as Kai shifted his orange orbs to Sakura’s pink tress in front of his face, moving his free hand to pat some of it down a bit. “Oba-san showed her.” He responded simply, and Miyuki didn’t question it anymore as she nodded. “I’ll make some breakfast...” She spoke happily – leaving the bedroom as Yuu followed after her mom – leaving his bedroom door open. Kai blushed heavily now – realizing he had Sakura curled up on him still, and his mother was just in the room... His heart raced rapidly, his orange orbs gazing down at her as she slept – she was pretty cute, he had to admit.

| Sakura continued to sleep soundly as Kai’s mother and little sister came and went. She was dreaming, but it wasn’t really a dream at all, it felt real, it felt more like a message… A warning. A voice spoke sternly to her and suddenly her grandmother’s face appeared before her causing Sakura to bolt upright in bed panting in fear.
“S-She’s home! Oh god she came home early!” Sakura planted her face in her hands with worry.
“My Grandmother is going to k-kill me!” She looked up from her hands to Kai, tears threatening to break from her lashes and down her flushed cheeks.
“Can your mother g-give me a ride home? I-I need to get dressed and go…” She suddenly realized how entangled she was with Kai and her face turned scarlet.
“Ah— er— I-I’m sorry!” She covered her face with her hands again this time with embarrassment at her inappropriate behavior. All the decisions she had made in the past 48 hours were catching up to her train of thought and she realized how much trouble she was going to be in. She was terrible for getting close to Kai, what was she thinking? What if he grew to like her, more than a friend would? She couldn’t have a relationship with a boy, they were all off limits. Sakura pulled her limbs away from Kai wanting nothing more than to crawl back into his arms. Pulling her knees to her chest buried her face into them.
Down stairs her cell phone buzzed on the coffee table ringing until it went to voicemail then starting up again.

Kai Akamatsu Kai was staring at Sakura’s features of her face – his orange orbs kind of traveling from her forehead, following along her nose and then immediately turned red once he gazed at her soft pink lips. Her lips were parted just barely as she breathed against him, her eyelids were moving as if she was having a very vivid dream. His hand went from her own, moving up to brush some of her pink tress from her face - but was quickly alarmed when she bolted up – her legs still wrapped around his own as he let out a slight shriek in fear of being kneed.
Kai stared at the flustered girl, going on about how her Grandmother was back early and that she would be in trouble. He sat up with her when she moved from him, his orange orbs staring at her as she covered her face with embarrassment. Kai frowned slightly – he knew that she would be in real big trouble too. He listened to her apologize, but he wouldn’t have it – she did nothing wrong. Kai reached his hand to peel one of her own from her face, leaning a bit closer to her – his forehead pressed onto her own as his orange orbs stared into her pink ones, a soft smile on his face. “Relax... I’ll go tell mom.” He told her in a very calm tone, and supporting manner as he pulled back as his thumb gently rubbed her hand in a way to tell her she’s okay. Kai pushed himself from bed, wobbling the moment he stood up and then proceeded to head downstairs, calling for his mother in the process as he shut his bedroom door behind him for Sakura’s privacy.
“Oh dear, yes. I will take her home.” Miyuki spoke softly, turning off the burner that had bacon in a pan as she looked a bit sad. “I wanted to thank her, maybe another time.” She spoke softly once more – looking over to Yuu, “Come on dear, let’s go get dressed to go for a car ride.” Yuu excitedly jumped from her table – following the mother outside to the main entrance of the home. Kai emitted out a soft sigh, his gut was turning as he didn’t know how her grandmother would respond – but hopefully it isn’t too harsh...
Kai went into the main living room, moving around to gather his things – his wallet and chain mainly as he hooked it onto his loop, and shoved his wallet into his back pocket. He headed up the stairs halfway, peeking over to see if his door was opened or closed – which was still closed as he continued up, and knocked gently on the door. “Sakura, are you dressed?”

| Pulling one of her hands away from her face Kai leaned in close to her pressing his forehead against hers. Instantly her cheeks turned red and her heart beat in her chest like a drum as he gave a smile just for her. He was always so cool and collected, and that smile suddenly made her heart ache. As Kai made his exit Sakura sat there stunned in silence, her mind suddenly turned from her grandmother and getting into trouble. Though she didn’t avoid the thought for long before jumping out of Kai’s bed. Sakura felt terrible, this whole situation wasn’t right and she suddenly felt like she was a bad person. This sort of relationship was leading down a path that Sakura couldn’t go down. She was not free to love whoever she wished to. Suddenly guilt began to weigh heavily on her, surely she had to tell Kai before they got back to her temple.
Quickly she took off Yuu’s clothes, folded them, and set them aside neatly as she swapped them for her own school uniform. No sooner had she tied her ribbon around her collar that Kai knocked on his own door asking if she was dressed.
“Y-Yes!” she called, her face still flushed with fever and panting slightly from getting so worked up, she went and pulled the door open having no time to do her hair it fell in pink waves around her face.
“T-Thank you Kai… I-I—“ quickly losing her nerve she shook her head “N-Never mind, I-I’ll tell you later…” Squeezed her eyes shut she gripped the Hem of her shirt tightly in both hands.

Kai Akamatsu Kai stared at her the moment she opened the door, she looked flustered still – but he wasn’t sure if it was because they were asleep together, or if she was still sick. “Oh, okay...” He spoke after her; his curiosity got his thoughts going – wondering what she wanted to speak about with him. He shrugged it from his shoulders, and motioned her to follow him quickly downstairs.
His mother and Yuu were already outside, warming up the car as Kai went to put on his combat boots – lacing them up quickly, and then grabbed his jacket. “You got everything?” He asked her – his orange orbs staring at her silently. Once she had collected her belongings from the living room, and put on her shoes, and a jacket – they both ventured outside. Kai let her go first, and closed the front door behind him as he locked it quickly. He followed Sakura to the vehicle, opening the backseat door for himself to sit into it – giving Sakura the front passenger seat.
Kai sat down completely, pulling his legs into the vehicle and closed the door shut after – moving his hands quickly to strap on his seat belt. He stared out the window for a moment, and then looked over to his right to see Yuu in her car seat, all strapped in and giggling with her toys.
“Ready?” Miyuki spoke out softly, looking through the rearview to Kai and then to Yuu, then her glance went to Sakura who was next to her in the passenger seat – buckling herself in. Once every one was buckled in, Miyuki pulled the car into reverse and backed up slowly until fully out of the drive way. Turning the wheel, she put the vehicle into drive mode and began to drive off into the direction of Sakura’s home; the temple across the other side of town.
It took a mere five-ten minutes in the car, Miyuki was good at dodging traffic and avoided any stop signs, and red lights through her backroad shortcuts. She pulled up to the side walk in front of the stairs, putting the vehicle into park and then pulling the emergency brake up to keep it from rolling off. “Want us to come?” Miyuki spoke to Kai and Sakura, as Kai was getting out of the vehicle to escort Sakura upstairs – and to also apologize to her grandmother. “I think we’ll be okay.” Kai told his mom, shutting the door behind him and hurrying over to Sakura’s side to open her door and help her out if needed. He proceeded to head up the stairs with her, making sure she was okay every so often since she had a cold still.
